Accelerated Reader Reading Incentive Program (AR)- AR is an online reading incentive program that enables students (grade 1 - 5) to read books, then complete a multiple choice quiz over the book's content. Volunteers are needed to assist with recording AR points, tracking progress and rewarding students with stickers. Work with teachers and other volunteers. Art Department - Volunteers are needed to help art teachers to hang up and take down student artwork in the school hallways. Art Fundraiser - Volunteers are needed to help art teachers to collect and collate orders for this art fundraiser. Book Fair - Volunteers are needed to help decorate, set up and take down book fair items, and act as cashier throught event. Training is provided. 1 - 2 hour time commitment. Box Tops - Clayton "Box Tops for Education" helps our school earn money. Click here for more information on the Box Tops program. NEW! Clayton's Cultural Celebration (C3) - Clayton's Cultural Celebration is an evening celebrating the diversity of our Clayton families. A variety of countries and cultures from across the globe are highlighted with dance performances, music and a worldwide potluck supper and much more. Cultures and traditions showcased will depend on the Clayton community. Volunteer opportunities include helping to organize the event, country representatives , food contributions, and more. Clayton Weekly Calendar & News - The Clayton Weekly is our calendar and e-mail sent via the Clayton Google group. (click here for more info.) Community Support/Perez ES Sister School Program - The mission of this program is to provide items to enrich the education and lives of the children at our sister school, Perez Elementary, and to foster a sense of community and charity in our children. Volunteers may work with counselors and assist with other needs as determined. NEW! Dads of Cardinals (DOCS) - The goal of this new program is to encourage active involvement of male figues in their children's lives because it does have a lasting and positive impact. All male figures in students' lives are encouraged to volunteer. Volunteers will help plan, organize and attend special events such as bringing your Cardinal to school, having breakfast together, meeting for lunch, going to book fair, helping in class, and more. Volunteer Coordinator Needed! Directory - The Clayton directory is a yearly publication provided by the PTA for use of Clayton families. It provides information about AISD, important dates, Clayton staff and student information, as well as advertising from supporting businesses within our community. (click here for more info.) Volunteers will coordinate directory information and advertising to fund. Donation Drive PTA Fundraiser - Clayton PTA holds 2 fundraisers during the school year in fall and spring. (click here for more info.) Fun Run & Celebration Fundraiser - This is Clayton's biggest (& most fun) campus event of the year. The monies raised by both the PTA and administration during this event are used to meet the many needs of the campus and student body. Volunteers are needed to help plan and implement the components of this spring fundraiser and community event. This event has many volunteer opportunities. (click link for more info.) Green Apple Deposit Program - This program is a partnership between Clayton Elementary and A+ Federal Credit Union to offer savings accounts to our children. Deposit days are held once per month at school that allow children to make deposits into their accounts. 5th grade students volunteer as tellers and learn check writing, math and accountability skills. (click here for more info.) Kindergarten Roundup - Registration and orientation for incoming kindergarten students. Help coordinate volunteers for the May 2012 Kinder enrollment session. Work with administration and office staff. Landscaping/Property Development - The Landscaping committee has worked to beautify the Clayton campus and help keep our cardinals safe. We have cleared property of cedar trees, cleaned the pond, removed rocks, made trails, cleaned out the front beds, cleaned out the planters around the portables and created two outside learning areas. Most recently, we are working on improving the baseball field, fixing and installing sprinklers and working to improve soil growth. (click here for more info.) Volunteers are needed to help clear land, make trails and improve the Clayton's landscape. Families, including kids are welcome to help. Library Helper - Provide assistance to library staff by shelving books and other tasks as directed by the librarian. Volunteers are needed daily, especially with lower grade levels. One day a week or every other week with a 2 hour shift is preferred. Contact Ms. Tuttle to coordinate schedules. Lost and Found - A collection of items left behind by students. The volunteer will coordinate monthly review of the lost and found items, returning labeled items to students. Provide monthly viewing of articles and donate unclaimed articles to community. Marquee Coordinator - This person updates the marquee in the school's front lawn. Math Pentathlon - Mathematics Pentathlon is a program of interactive problem-solving games for grades K - 5. (click here for more info.) Office Help - The front office staff needs your assistance! Duties include answering phones, greeting visitors, filing and working on various clerical projects. A time commitment of 2 hours weekly or biweekly is required. NEW! OUTDOOR and Discovery Learning Committee - This committee will meet and plan with faculty and administration to develop the vision of an outdoor discovery learning environment at Clayton. The goal of this environment is to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities that can engage their minds and enhance their creative thinking and problem solving skills. Volunteers will help develop the vision of the learning environment as well as plan an outdoor design. Partners in Education (PIE) - Partners in Education is an independent AISD program that works directly with the district and/or individual schools. PIE provide assistance to schools with financial and volunteer needs.(click here for more info.) Volunteers are needed to asist with paperwork, grant writing, coordinating and communicating restaurant nights, maintaining the PIE bulletin board and contacting current and new business partners. Teacher partner assists with information. Picture Day - Professional student photographs. Volunteers are needed to assist photography personnel in organizing students for pictures. Help is also needed on re-take days. PTA Book Exchange - Exchange your gently used books at this PTA event. PTA Web Site - Claytoncardinals.org is a valuable resource for Clayton families to find out about PTA programs, services, news, school information and much more. Reflections/Arts - Reflections is a national PTA sponsored, arts-in-education recognition program that encourages children to express themselves through literature, art, music, photography, dance and film/video. (click here for more info.) Volunteers are needed to assist in promoting Reflections, check in entries, secure judges, assist with awards. Room Parent Coordinator - This role is to help your child's teacher and class by coordinating with other parents to plan parties, class auction basket, collections for staff appreciation gifts, etc. Responsibilities and time commitment depend on your teacher's needs and preferences. This role can be split between two parents as co-coordinators. School Supplies - Work with teachers to get supply lists, coordinate with supply vendor, ask for and receive orders. Supply pick-up event before school starts.(click for more info.) NEW! SIGNAGE - Clayton Elementary is in need of signs to identify all the vegetation on campus as an extension of Clayton's learning environment. Anyone with knowledge of native plants or an interest in the outdoors would be great at aiding this project. In addition, anyone with knowledge of local insects and wildlife would also be an asset in providing additional information for discovery learning opportunities. Volunteers would help identify vegetation and wildlife, design signs, seek signage providers, and help organize the labeling of Clayton's great outdoors. SOAR Reading Program - Students on Adventures in Reading (SOAR), is a wonderful volunteer
based program designed to give individual students help in reading. This program supports the teachers and students in 2nd – 5th grades. Children are selected to participate based on their benchmark scores. If the teacher or the administration thinks that the student will benefit from some individual attention, they also participate in SOAR. The SOAR student is typically one who doesn’t have a reading disability, but just needs practice. (click for more info.Volunteer “mentors” read with a child, cheering them on, and giving them the special attention they need to, well, soar. **requires a background check** Teacher Appreciation - Is an event to honor Clayton teachers and staff. Supported by the PTA and parent donations. Volunteers are needed to help organize events throughout the year. Track & Field Day - This is a school wide spring fundraiser for the PE department to purchase new equipment. Volunteer: Includes getting snacks to sell in the concession stand during the event, coordinating the concession stand and volunteers for the two event days. Track and Field day is a fun day for the students. Activities are handled by the PE teachers. T-Shirt & Spiritwear - Clayton Spiritwear is sold at the beginning of the school year, starting at the School Supply Pick-up event and at the meet the teacher event. For sales and availability after these events, please contact the sales and services officer, William Smithson. VIP Room - The VIP room provides services for our staff and teachers including copying, laminating, binding and more. Providing this valuable service gives our fabulous teachers the precious gift of time! Vision & Hearing - Students are tested twice a year. Volunteers help monitor students in the screening process. Yearbook - Overall coordinator will organize yearbook sale and assist grade level coordinators to ensure details are included and deadlines are met. One of the most memorable tasks in the school. Grade level coordinators will work with room parent volunteers for each classroom.
