From a Bird's Eye View....
It has been an exciting couple of weeks here at Clayton. Your Cardinals have been very busy with their learning. Can you believe we just celebrated the 100th Day of School?! Our primary learners were so excited to be completing writing, counting, and reading tasks and activities related to this. You should walk the hallways to see their work or check out the writing some students have done about what they would do with $100 or what they expect to look like when they are 100 years old! I wonder if Mr. (Dr.) Robinett would be upset to learn that having a full head of gray hair is something that you should expect when you have reached 100 years of life --(or in his case, since he was just over 30 :))?! Although the students' stories, thoughts, and ideas are precious, it's the actual growth in learning that they have been demonstrating over these past one hundred days that is cause for celebration.
Speaking of great learning opportunities, this week, 4th graders were involved in a "Digital Learning Day" where Cardinals completed rotations to learn about and apply various aspects of technology. The students took photos and uploaded them into presentations, learned about cybersafety, independently connected computer monitors, "mice", and printers, learned about and constructed animoto presentations, and explored and experimented with other designated online sites and materials in small group rotations.
This week, First through Third Grade students were visited by author, illustrator, and musician, Mike Artell. Artell is quite the humorist, and he had students and teachers chuckling at his stories. He shared with students a number of the nonfiction and fiction titles that he has written, and he retold the story of Petite Rouge (Little Red Riding Hood) in a Cajun accent. You wouldn't have needed to know your gumbo from your boudin to appreciate Mike's presentation as much as the students did. Their laughter and smiles were infectious.
Finally, I failed to send out a huge thank you last week to Michelle Rober, other helpful PTA volunteers, and Brownie Troop 1728 who assisted with this year's Clayton Book Exchange. Over 3000 books were on hand for this event and over 160 students participated. It was so great seeing kids leaving with their arms full of books and smiles on their faces. Keep on Reading, Cardinals!
Have a great rest of the week!
